8 hurt in 6-vehicle collision in Antipolo

ANTIPOLO City, Rizal – At least eight persons were hurt in a collision involving six vehicles, causing heavy traffic along Sumulong Highway in Barangay Mambugan of this component city.

According to Antipolo City Office of Public Safety Security Traffic Enforcer Paul Edward Tapales, a wayward tourist bus lost its brake while descending Sumulong Highway and hit five other vehicles including a passenger jeepney, a dump truck, a mini-bus, a UV Express van, and a private car.


The victims identified as Elaine Sendido, Juanito Ibarbia, Mary Anne Martin, Airalyn Correche, Adelaida Salazar, Nimrod Gerez, and Remudrado Jacintom who were on board the passenger jeep, were immediately rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina.


Likewise hurt is jeepney driver Raymond Sales.


During the investigation, tourist bus driver Jose de Pedro said that he suddenly lost control of the bus after its brake went off.


Traffic flow was back to normal after the local Bureau of Fire Protection flushed the street of oil, fuel, and debris scattered all over the road.
