Iloilo City, where the gentle whispers of the past echo through cobblestone streets, a cultural revolution is stirring. Spearheaded by the passionate and talented Angelkym Acusta, a rising star in the realm of Ilonggo Pop Music, a night of celebration and artistic expression is about to unfold.

Angelkym's journey into the world of music began over a decade ago, a young dreamer with a heart full of melodies and a pen eager to write stories.

In 2008, she penned her first original single, "Kung Bal-an Mo Lang Tani," a song that would soon capture the hearts of Ilonggos everywhere. Inspired by a Korean melody translated to Tagalog, then to Hiligaynon, this serenade became an anthem, resonating on local airwaves and captivating listeners with its heartfelt lyrics.

As Angelkym's music soared, so did her determination to ensure its legitimacy and protection.

At just 18 years old, she took the bold step of legally registering her compositions, navigating the complexities of copyright law to safeguard her creations. Through diligence and perseverance, she secured her place within the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (FILSCAP), ensuring that her artistry would be recognized and rewarded.

But Angelkym's vision extends beyond her own success. With "A Night of Love" concert, she aims to shine a spotlight on the vibrant talent of her fellow Ilonggos. Frustrated by the lack of recognition on a national scale, she seeks to showcase the creativity and artistry inherent in the Ilonggo spirit. Through a fusion of pop music, spoken word poetry, and heartfelt confessions, she invites audiences to embrace the richness of the Ilonggo dialect and support local artists on their journey to the forefront of the cultural landscape.

Art Knows No Bounds

The lineup for "A Night of Love" promises an unforgettable experience, blending original hits from Angelkym herself with the soul-stirring melodies of other Ilonggo songwriters. From Bronze P.'s infectious "Basta Ilongga, Gwapa" to R-Nic's heartfelt "Sa Imo Ko Nakita," the concert offers diverse sounds and emotions, each song a testament to the depth of Ilonggo talent.

But music is not the only language spoken on this enchanted evening. Spoken word poets QZ Martin and John Anthony Estolloso will weave tales of love and longing, while Coach Nile offers up confessions and hugots that resonate with the human experience. And as the Danze Unlimited Dancers take the stage, their mesmerizing movements serve as a reminder that art knows no bounds, transcending language and culture to touch the soul.

Directed by the visionary John Jesner Punsaran and hosted by the charismatic Kerr Alvior, "A Night of Gugma" promises to be more than just a concert – it's a celebration of community, creativity, and the enduring power of love. So come, immerse yourself in the magic of Ilonggo music, and join us on April 27 at Amigo Events Hall for a night to remember.
