In the pursuit of quality education, one crucial aspect often overlooked is the welfare of our educators. Recently, House Bill 10137 was filed in the House of Representatives, aiming to address the pressing issue of inadequate compensation for teaching personnel in public colleges and universities.

According to Aklan 1st District Rep. Carlito Marquez, HB 10137 seeks to elevate the minimum salary grade of public school teachers in basic education and teaching personnel in higher education. This adjustment, from Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grade 15 for basic education and from Salary Grade 12 to Salary Grade 16 for higher education, reflects a necessary step to keep pace with the rising cost of living.

It's no secret that the current compensation for educators falls short of providing a decent standard of living. Despite their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in shaping the minds of future generations, many teachers struggle to make ends meet on meager salaries. This not only undermines their morale but also hampers their ability to deliver quality education effectively.

Invaluable Contribution

By raising the minimum salary of teaching personnel, we not only acknowledge their invaluable contribution to society but also invest in the future of our nation. Education is the cornerstone of progress, and teachers serve as the architects of that progress. They deserve to be compensated fairly for their hard work, passion, and commitment to nurturing the minds of our youth.

Moreover, the proposed measure encompasses all teaching personnel in public schools, including those in technical and vocational schools, state universities, and colleges. This inclusivity ensures that no educator is left behind and that all individuals dedicated to the noble profession of teaching are duly recognized and rewarded.

Reevaluate, Elevate

As Marquez aptly stated, it is imperative to reevaluate and elevate the minimum salary of teaching personnel. Their take-home pay should reflect the immense responsibility they bear and the invaluable service they provide to our society. Investing in our teachers is investing in the future of our nation — a future built on a solid foundation of quality education, driven by empowered and motivated educators.

As discussions surrounding education reform continue, let us not forget the fundamental role that teachers play in shaping the future. Fair compensation for educators is not just a matter of monetary value; it's a matter of recognition, respect, and investment in the betterment of society as a whole.

Let us support House Bill 10137 and advocate for the fair treatment and just compensation of educators.
