Villa Arevalo in Iloilo City, nestled within the walls of a heritage house dating back to 1927, lies a haven for coffee aficionados and lovers of tradition alike. Glory's Cafe has stood the test of time for over seven decades, its legacy woven intricately into the fabric of Iloilo's history.

The tale of Glory's Cafe is one of resilience, adaptation, and familial devotion, spanning three generations and weathering the storms of war, economic shifts, and even a global pandemic.

It all began in the aftermath of the Second World War when Sixto "Nonoy Pedring" Alloso Chua Sr., the current owner's grandfather, found himself at the helm of a shoe factory alongside his siblings.

But fate had other plans, leading him to transform a humble space in the central market into what would become a cherished culinary institution.

More Than Just A Cafe

As the years unfolded, Glory's Cafe became more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee or a bite to eat. It became a gathering spot for locals, a hub of community life where stories were shared, friendships forged, and memories made.

Managed with unwavering dedication by my grandmother, Gloria Serena, the cafe weathered challenges and transitions with grace, evolving from a grocery store to a beloved cafeteria.

Through births, marriages, and the passage of time, the Chua family nurtured and preserved the legacy of Glory's Cafe, passing down traditions and recipes from one generation to the next. Twelve siblings, each with their dreams and aspirations, contributed to the cafe's rich tapestry, infusing it with their unique personalities and talents.

Tradition Weds Modernity

In 2017, the torch was passed once again as Michael Chua, eldest son of the late George Chua, ushered in a new era for Glory's Cafe.

With a vision to marry tradition with modernity, he opened the third-generation cafe at City Timesquare Diversion Road, introducing upgraded facilities and a commitment to quality control while honoring the time-honored "Sala-sala" brewing method.

Expanding to four branches across Iloilo, alongside the establishment of Sabor Ilonggo, a pasalubong shop, Glory's Cafe seemed poised for even greater heights.

Coffee and Memories

However, the unforeseen challenges of the pandemic forced a pivot, leading to the closure of branches and a renewed focus on the flagship location within the ancestral home on Quezon St.

Today, Glory's Cafe continues to serve as a beacon of hope and resilience for the Chua family and the community it has faithfully served for generations.

From its beginnings as a grocery store in the central market to its current incarnation as a purveyor of quality coffee and cherished memories, the legacy of Glory's Cafe endures, a testament to the enduring power of family, tradition, and a damn good cup of coffee.
