“People’s Initiative,” “Only Economic Provisions, to Invite Investors.” So say our so-called “Honorable Gentlemen” in Congress, aggressively pushing hard to change the 1987 Philippine Constitution. They know that the present Constitution is strongly pro-People and anti-Dynasty, pro-Social Justice, pro-Human Rights, pro-Press/Assembly/Speech Freedoms, and above all, implores the ALMIGHTY GOD to guide and help us, the Filipino people, “TO BUILD a JUST and HUMANE SOCIETY!”
Can’t these “public servants” see that the DEMOCRATIC SPIRIT of the 1987 Constitution was birthed by the world-recognized-appreciated-copied EDSA PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION? It is the highly-important history-laden month of February NOW. Just because the current head-of-state happens to be a Marcos, and a Duterte as a second-in-command, the daughter of the former president who dared to say that the constitution is just “a piece of paper,” why are these ‘honorable’ public officials, particularly those at the ground-level, LGU officials, kowtowing to the questionable wish of a Marcos relative for a Cha-Cha?
Would you believe that these “representatives of the people” are thinking of their constituents? The reality is that the majority of their constituents in their respective provinces, where they hold sway practically as feudal lords are still waiting for the price of their staple food, rice, at P65 or more per kilogram to be brought down to P20/kg, as promised by their idols, the current “Uniteam” top dynastic leadership.
The Filipino people, for the past two years, have sadly been waiting for a respite from their sufferings – unaffordable food prices and basic household items, lower transportation costs, the millions-worth of drugs flooding the market, a poorly-managed education system that must be corrected and improved to be truly considered as “world-class,” massive unemployment, unfair wages for workers and professionals like the nurses and teachers, lack of sustainable assistance to our farmers and IPs, the weaponization of the law and a justice system that has deprived dignified living for countless families of victims of EJKs and red-tagging, the braggadocio of a former president (the target of the ICC’s investigation of his “crimes against humanity”) calling for the secession of Mindanao, and Chinese bullying at the expense of our fishermen’s livelihood, our maritime wealth, and worse, their frontal attacks on our sovereignty over the West Philippine Sea as an independent nation!
BUT the Filipino people with the thousands of democratic forces and millions of patriotic Filipinos nationwide have been living in action the EDSA PEOPLE POWER of COURAGEOUS FIGHT for TRUTH, JUSTICE, DEMOCRACY and PROGRESS for our COUNTRY! BUHAY ang EDSA fighting against the plunderous, corrupt, lying, cheating and illegitimate administration trying to erase the historical victories of our national heroes and martyrs, and especially the TRIUMPH of the Filipino People in 1986 over the MARCOS DICTATORSHIP. EDSA PEOPLE POWER is alive and thriving nationwide!
